Overview of VPN Capabilities #

This section provides an overview of the virtual private network (VPN) capabilities integrated into the Relianoid Load Balancer. The VPN feature ensures robust privacy and data protection through advanced encryption methods such as AES-256, blowfish-256, and camellia-256, coupled with authentication protocols like MD5, SHA-1, and SHA-256. It supports industry-standard protocols including L2TP/IPsec, IKEv1, and IKEv2.

VPN tunnel and transport modes

Users can configure VPN profiles tailored to their specific needs and use cases:
ZSS. A Relianoid Site-to-Site VPN for connections between the load balancer and real servers or between different sites. Relianoid acts as the default gateway for both local and remote subnets, implementing IPsec for secure communication.
ZTN. A Relianoid Tunnel VPN that establishes a GRE tunnel over IPsec, suitable for client-to-load balancer or load balancer-to-server connections. Relianoid serves as the default gateway for local and remote subnets.
ZRS. A Relianoid Remote Site VPN where Relianoid operates as a VPN server. Clients connect to this VPN, receive dynamic IP addresses, and their traffic is routed through the load balancer’s routing system using IPsec in server mode (road warrior).

Here are the key properties described for each VPN profile:
Name. A label identifying the VPN profile.
Profile. Type of VPN profile (Site-to-Site or Remote Site).
Local. IP address of the local server (supports IPv4 and IPv6).
Local net. Subnet mask of the local server.
Remote. IP address of the remote server (supports IPv4 and IPv6).
Remote net. Subnet mask of the remote server.
Status. Indicates the health of the VPN.

  • Green. VPN is UP.
  • Red. VPN is DOWN.

VPN Actions #

Available actions for managing VPN services:

  • Create VPN. Opens a form to create a new VPN service.
  • Restart. Reboots a VPN service.
  • Start. Activates a selected VPN service.
  • Stop. Deactivates an active VPN service.
  • Delete. Removes a VPN profile and associated configurations.

The VPN capabilities in RELIANOID Load Balancer provide flexibility and robust security features, enabling secure communication channels tailored to various networking requirements and operational scenarios.
